The Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authorities is “presently under review”.
This was revealed by the Chief Minister during the opening speech of the new sports annex. The comments made during the presentation were very much off the cuff and revealing, giving the first clear indications of changes under which the GSLA will be working under.
CoreSportGib recently revealed that the government was reviewing GSLA policies to incorporate new conditions in which certain commercial avenues could be implemented in the future. The reveiw, as confirmed by today, will also include the working conditions and contracts under which the staff at the GSLA work under.
Recently the GSLA saw a new facilities manager put in place, with a media marketing division also expected to be put in place in the near future. Areas of commercial interest are believed to include allowing sponsorship and advertising around the stadium which is presently not allowed, and reviewing when charges will be implemented for the use of the facilities. This could affect football where the extensive use of the facilities means a large part of the cost is on the allocation use for matches where now players have a financial benefit in participating in the sport but no fees are charged for the use of the facilities.
