The Gibraltar Netball national squad narrowly lost against a much physically stronger and faster UK Armed Forces selection.
The latter, handpicked by the England netball selectors was made up from the best players from the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Army. A total of 21 services players comprise the UK Armed Forces selection which is presently bidding to gain credibility within the European netball network to gain an invitation status into Netball Europe, in which Gibraltar already participates.
The match at the DTC Garrison Gym was the last major preparation match for the Gibraltar National Team before their departure to the UK next week. The match had been aimed to provide a platform in which the local team could put into practice their game plans against an unknown opposition.
The UK Armed Forces squad proved to be a tough challenge, having just come from playing Ireland. The visiting team came out eventual winners by 41-36 in what ended up to be a hotly contested friendly match.
